A Simple Guide to the Overseas NGO Law

The Overseas NGO Law is slated to come into force in January 2017. As the first piece of legislation governing overseas NGOs’ operations in Mainland China, it has received much attention and raised many questions since its drafting stage. While the government is expected to release detailed rules guiding implementation, we thought it would be helpful to provide our readers with a simplified and streamlined version of the law to act as a quick reference guide.

We would also like to thank the Center for Charity Law of the China Philanthropy Research Institute at Beijing Normal University for providing us with the inspiration for this work, through their excellent Charity Law for Dummies.
