ABOUT ROUNDABOUT CHINA

Founded by Leslie Simpson in 2008, ROUNDABOUT is a social service enterprise with 35 employees and supported by local and expat volunteers of diverse backgrounds. ROUNDABOUT now operates one retail store at Yosemite, two online stores, a Community Center at Shine Hills, three sub-branches in Gansu, Shaanxi and Xinjiang.

 

Part of the China Charities Aid & Foundation for Children, ROUNDABOUT offers medical and educational aid to children and under-served families / communities.

The Role

 

Reporting to the Trustees/Directors, the Operations Director will manage, supervise and be responsiblefor a team of 35 employees in the different areas of: planning and operations; donor relations, retail/online/Community Center sales; HR & Admin, Accounting & Finance; Publicity & Communications;and Events planningand coordination. In addition, the Operations Director shall build and maintain relationships with local government and ROUNDABOUT stakeholders (families, customers, donors,sponsors, volunteers, local communities, embassies, chambers of commerce, local and international schools).

 

The Operations Director shall be responsible for making sure ROUNDABOUT accomplishes its goals and objectives as set and agreed with the Trustees/Directors and provide monthly reports.

 

Responsibilities

 

Planning & Operations

 

The Operations Director shall be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and operations of ROUNDABOUT. The person will make sure the staff collectively has the skills needed to perform the various jobs required, and providing ongoing staff development to enhance their performances. The Operations Director makes sure ROUNDABOUT has the space needed to house the donations and staff appropriately, and necessary skills to do their jobs efficiently. In addition to overseeing the dayto-day operations, he/she sets the example that motivates the staff to accomplish ROUNDABOUT’s goals.

 

Donor Relations

 

A major goal of ROUNDABOUT is to raise funds to support its medical and educational programs and provide ad hoc assistance. The Operations Director’s attention to fundraising efforts is critical. While other staff members may have the day-to-day responsibility for fundraising details, the Operations Director makes sure all fundraising efforts stay on track. Together with the Trustees/Directors, the Operations Director maintains long-term relationships with key donors and potential donors.

Retail/online/Community Center sales

 

The Operations Director works closely with the staff responsible for retail/online/community center on the sales of merchandise, pricing and keep track of inventory.

 

HR & Admin

 

He/She must have in-depth knowledge and experience and oversee that HR & Admin policies and procedures are in place and comply with statutory and regulatory guidelines.

 

Accounting & Finance

 

The Operations Director will oversee the accounting and finance and ensure good practices and compliance according to policies and procedures.

 

Branding, Publicity & Communications

 

With the approval of the Trustees/Directors, the Operations Director will develop branding, publicity and communications materials for ROUNDABOUT. Such materials include, but are not limited to,annual and quarterly reports, newsletters, fundraising letters and event flyers, press releases and other marketing and advertising/promotional materials. He/She must ensure the ROUNDABOUT brand is properly used and communicated in collaboration with partners.

 

Events planning and coordination

 

The Operations Director shall work closely with partners on the events and ensure maximum visibility,awareness and meets the fundraising targets set for each event.

 

Stakeholder (Community) Relations

 

The Operations Director has to work closely with others in the community to increaseand maintain ROUNDABOUT’s visibility. Together with the Trustees/Directors, he/she is charged with setting a collaborative leadership example that will encourage cooperation and good working relationships with the staff and stakeholders.

 

He/She shall expand our reach to both the international and Chinese communities and enhance ROUNDABOUT’s visibility as a Chinese charity and also, recognized as a successful case study for a social service enterprise.

 

Requirements

 

• Bachelor or Master’s degree from a recognised university with eight to 10 years experience as a business unit head or Directorial position in a nonprofit organization

 

• Strong in both Chinese and English (spoken and written)

 

• Self-motivated

 

• Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills

 

• References on request

 

The Operations Director is required to work long hours and under the pressure of multiple events, deadlines and targets. The annual remuneration is CNY240,000 with leave entitlement and benefits in accordance with the labor laws.
