Innovation Associate

Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations’ global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It is on the ground in 170 countries, working on solutions to global and national development challenges. UNDP in China fosters human development to empower women and men to build better lives. As the United Nations’ development network, UNDP draws on a world of experience to assist China in developing its own solutions to the country’s development challenges. Through partnerships and innovation, UNDP works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by reducing poverty, strengthening the rule of law and democratic governance, promoting environmental sustainability and South-South Cooperation.

Demonstrating the relevance of innovation as a critical design principle for programming is a key priority for UNDP worldwide. Particular emphasis has been placed on nurturing innovative tools, techniques and approaches and the use of technologies for development. As a result, HQ and RBAP established the Innovation Fund to support Country Offices to advance the innovation agenda by providing the creative space and discretionary resources to prototype innovative solutions and experiment with new ways of working to tackle complex development challenges outside the traditional business cycle. This initiative is a way to deliver on the new corporate Strategic Plans call for more “agile” programming. As the demand for innovative approaches to development keeps accelerated, UNDP country offices around the world require up-to-the-minute access to the latest evidence-backed solutions from within and outside the organisation.
