MSF Communications Officer (Media and Publications) (Beijing)

The international medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is looking for a suitable candidate for the following position to be based in Beijing:

Communications Officer (Media and Publications)

 

Reporting to the China Communications Manager in Beijing, this position is responsible for developing of public communications strategy in mainland China, as well as promoting the profile and identity of the organisation, as well as its worldwide activities and humanitarian concerns, via media and targeted groups among the general public. 

 

 

Main  responsibilities:

Pitch media for regular coverage of MSF’s work and worldwide humanitarian crises and especially highlight the medical identity of MSF

Initiate media briefings and prepare press dossiers, and where possible organize press conferences

Produce communications materials for  media and targeted group’s use

Manage the translation of press releases, web articles and other MSF communications dossiers in collaboration with other communications staff in Hong Kong, Taipei and Beijing

Monitor media reports and correct wrong information and wrong usage of MSF name when in need

Keep the relationship with key online media in mainland China and contribute material to raise awareness of humanitarian crisis in those platforms.

Produce MSF publications in mainland China in collaboration with Hong Kong team;

Promote public events and other visibility activities in Beijing and other cities, and when necessary assist in the event organization and production

Coordinate talks, workshops and public speeches to raise the profile of MSF and awareness of humanitarian issues

 

 

The Ideal Candidate:

University graduate

Minimum 2 years’ journalistic or policy research /public relations experience;

Strong interest in humanitarian affairs; commitment to the aims and values of Médecins Sans Frontières

Good knowledge of traditional and new media/online media in China

Experience in online / social media platform maintenance is desirable

Ability to generate content and engage interest with online and social media channels

strong ability of translation and copy writing

Ability to work independently but also a good team player

Fluency in both spoken and written English and Chinese

Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines

Flexible working hours
