信息公开是个突破口

By Ma Xinping (马新萍), China Environment News (中国环境报), February 21, 2013

Interview with Ma Jun, well-known environmentalist and founder of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs. IPE, Friends of Nature, and Nature University recently submitted revision suggestions on the “Beijing Air Pollution Prevention Regulations Draft” to the Beijing Municipal Legal Office, recommending harsher punishment for pollution and a greater emphasis on transparency. Ma emphasizes the concept that “everyone is responsible” for pollution, and urges people to start in their own lives with efforts such as avoiding the burning of trash and barbequing. Ma is particularly adamant about the importance of information transparency, which allows the public to be informed and participate in the process of fighting pollution.
