Government and business valued over grassroots: Impressions of the second charity exhibition
官商为贵、民为轻——第二届慈展会印象
ngocn.net, September 27, 2013

With the wind and rain of Typoon Usagi swirling outside, the third and final day of the 2nd China Charity Project Exchange Exhibition came to an end on the afternoon of the 23rd September. It was held in the Shenzhen Conference Centre and whether it was because of the weather, or whether it was because it coincided with the Mid-Autumn festival, the atmosphere inside seemed fairly cold. Relatively few of the city’s residents had visited the exhibition; most of those standing outside the booths were representatives handing out flyers, and no more than half the seats of the salons had been filled. The ‘resource slanting’ of this year’s Exhibition was clear, as it was in the first Exhibition. The central area of the exhibition hall was densely packed with the livery of business or government charities and foundations. In contrast, the non-government organisations were dispersed around the periphery of the hall, packed into small, eight-foot-square booths. Luxury and poverty; the difference between the two areas showed a strong contrast. [Translated from the first paragraph]
