High-profile philanthropist Chen Guangbiao refutes allegations

On the 21st of September a court in Nanjing accepted a case filed by high-profile Chinese philanthropist Chen Guangbiao against financial news portal Caixin, one day after the website published a special report accusing Chen of fraud. Chen requested that the court immediately order Caixin to cease publishing articles or remarks that jeopardise his rights to his name and reputation, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency. Philanthropists of Chinese origin are changing China’s global image, says report

Hurun Research released the Hurun Global Chinese Big Philanthropy Report 2016 on the 13th of July 2016 in Beijing. The report is a benchmark ranking of individuals of Chinese origin who have donated CNY 500 million (equivalent to US$80m) or more during their lifetime. 51 Chinese made the list, led by Pony Ma of Tencent, Jack Ma, Li Ka-shing and Priscilla Chan of Facebook, who have all made donations running into billions of dollars. Alumni from Fudan, Tsinghua and China Agricultural University shown to be the most generous donors

On June 7th, the Hurun Research Institute released the “2016 Hurun Philanthropy List”, which shows that alumni from Fudan University, Tsinghua University and China Agricultural University donate money the most generously. Donations in the field of education mainly consist of donating money to one’s own alma mater. The list shows that Fudan University, Tsinghua University and China Agricultural University successively received the most donations.
