The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Through our internationally-recognised certification and ecolabeling programme well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the market place, through the leadership of our partners. Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice. Around 500 fisheries around the world, representing 17% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.
Successful fisheries outreach is at the heart of the MSC programme, vital to driving participation in the MSC programme and facilitating fishery improvements to achieve healthy oceans for future generations.
MSC’s China program is looking for a dynamic, highly organised, technically able Senior Fisheries Outreach Manager to successfully deliver the Fisheries Outreach Programme in China. We want an experienced, keen advocate of the oceans and sustainable seafood, someone who appreciates the MSC’s mission and values, who is committed to making a lasting contribution to sustainable fishing around the world.
The Senior Fisheries Outreach Manager will have extensive knowledge of the China fishing industry and be expected to build and maintain excellent working relationships with the China seafood sectors and fisheries in the MSC programme and working towards certification, to support the MSC in its mission for healthy oceans and sustainable seafood.
The post will involve working with the China fisheries and seafood sector, so the successful candidate will need to combine a knowledge of marine and fisheries issues with a thorough technical understanding of this fascinating sector.
The Senior Fisheries Outreach Manager must be a strategic thinker, a keen planner, and able to engage with and communicate technical concepts to a wide range of audiences. A real self-starter, they will be able to lead and inspire internal and external partners, have exemplary influencing, negotiating and problem-solving skills and the ability to remain composed in high-pressure environments.
Reporting to the Programme Director, China, the successful candidate will work in close collaboration with our Commercial outreach and Communications teams to promote MSC certified fisheries and regional Fisheries Projects to deliver integrated projects that help drive success and contribute to the attainment of China fisheries sustainability. Cultivating and maintaining essential internal and external relationships will therefore be an essential component of this role.
The post will be based in MSC’s China office with regular regional travels and out-of-hours work as required.
