Founded as a private foundation by Bill and Melinda Gates in 2000, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, or Gates Foundation, puts the belief that “every life has equal value” into practice by reducing inequalities in health. The foundation works with partners across the globe to develop new methodologies and strategies to combat various global health issues in developing countries.
The foundation’s China office was launched in 2007 and has been dedicated in assisting China in “becoming a stronger partner for global health and development.” In China, the foundation involves itself in poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS intervention, tobacco control, and many other areas relating to development and public health. The foundation also hopes to bring China’s model of domestic reform into the current poorest regions of the world, and empower more global innovation.
