Introduction

Chinese Children Charities was founded in 1992 by a Chinese-American husband and wife, Rev. Joshua Zhong and Lily Nie. The organization was founded to provide support for Chinese orphan children, and find adoptive homes for them in the United States. Since its founding the organization has found homes in the US for more than 12500 children.

Programs include:

  1. Childcare centers around China. In 2000, Chinese Children Charities and the Hangzhou Children's Shelter cooperated to found the Lily Childcare Center. There are now nine Lily Childcare Centers in Hangzhou, Chongqing Fuling Area, Hunan Qidong County, Henan Province Luohe, Kaifeng, Zhengzhou, Zhuma, Anyang and Nanyang City.
  2. Providing training services to childcare staff, including training on specific topics including caring for disabled children, infants, older orphan children and orphanage management.
  3. Finding adoptive families for children in orphanages.
  4. Student grants. Before 2008 the Chinese government did not have any specific policy aimed at helping orphans receive higher education. In 2008, Chinese Children Charities put forward a proposal to the China Adoption Center about higher education opportunities for Chinese orphans. The organization donated 100,000 USD and selected 18 students to attend a technical college in Changsha. In 2010 the Ministry of Civil Affairs agreed to take over this program and since then almost 500 orphaned students have been able to attain higher education.
  5. Organized medical support for orphans in Liaoning, Zhejiang, Qinghai, and Henan, among other provinces. The medical teams provided heart, eye and cleft palate surgery, and also training to care for recuperating children.
  6. Adoptees Giving Back Service Trip for adopted children to return to China and work in orphanages.
  7. Summer and Winter Camps for older orphaned children. The program sponsors children from orphanages around China to visit the United States for a few weeks and stay with a host family and help them to find an adoptive family.
