The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy is an international NGO that works to provide design and implement high quality transport systems and policy solutions that make cities more livable, equitable, and sustainable.
ITDP China faces unique challenges as Chinese private automobile ownership continues to grow and current urban planning is often automobile-oriented. At the same time, Chinese urban development will have large implications on the rest of the world. ITDP China works to promote mass transit and non-motorized transportation and believes that sustainable and equitable transportation is at the core of development that can solve China's social and environmental problems.
ITDP China also runs a BRT DATABASE of all BRT projects in China, BIKE DATABASE of bike share programs throughout the country, and runs the China Site Visit Program (here).
ITDP China works in twelve cities in China: Beijing, Dongguan, Nanning, Harbin, Dandong, Guiyang, Wuhan, Jiuquan, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Lanzhou and Yichang. In addition, ITDP China also works with other Asian cities, including Vientiane, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Ulaanbaatar.
