Introduction

If our planet is faced with a brick wall of problems, then adults are like roots, and youths are like “shoots,” full of energy. These roots and shoots can join hands and break through the brick walls, changing the world.

Goals

We are committed to providing environmental protection education for youths, which can bring them a deeper understanding of the environment and an awareness of wildlife conservation and environmental protection. We hope to foster feelings of respect and sympathy for all living things, enhance understandings of different cultures and faiths, and to empower and motivate individuals to actively make efforts to make the world a better place.

Major Projects

  • “A Million Trees” Project, Improving the ecological and cultural environment of the Kulunqi community in Inner Mongolia.
  • “Yes” Youth Environmental Education Project, Free guidance for students to carry out “Green Action for Youth.”
  • Organic Farm Project for Small Farms
  • Lemiao Project, Addressing the health, nutritional, and educational needs of children of migrant workers.
  • Green Environment Assessment Project, Guiding and educating students, enterprises, and individuals to start a war against waste, and to reduce the everyday impact on the environment.

Major Achievements

  • 2007, Shanghai Volunteers Association (上海市志愿者协会), “Volunteer Service Advanced Group”
  • 2008, 2009, That's Shanghai, “Best Green Environment Organization”
  • 2010, Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and U.S. Consulate Ambassadors' personnel visited Shanghai Roots & Shoots small organic farm in Hanghua.
  • 2010, Roots and Shoots Volunteers appeared with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the World Expo USA Pavilion.
  • 2011, US Embassador Gary Locke visited the Jinzhou Elementary School's organic farm and met with students involved with the project.

Distinctions

  • We have made a long-term commitment to youth environmental education, from elementary schools to universities, establishing groups at more than 200 groups in the Shanghai area.
