  • CASS releases blue book of corporate social responsibility for 2019

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) has released the “Blue Book of Corporate Social Responsibility 2019”. The press conference for the Blue Book’s release was held alongside the second “Beijing Responsibility Exhibition” (北京责任展) on the 17th of November. The occasion was organized by the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Social Responsibility 100 Forum. This is the eleventh consecutive year that the CASS research team releases the “Blue Book of CSR”, which has become the most authoritative and influential social responsibility research report in China. It systematically analyzes the top 100 state-owned enterprises, the top 100 private enterprises, the top 100 foreign companies, and the 10 key industries including electricity, banking and food, in order to provide a benchmark reference for CSR policy development and related research.

The CSR 100 Forum was actively promoted during the Beijing Responsibility Exhibition. The representatives of 23 companies issued a declaration to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The companies, including China Mobile, China Southern Power Grid, and SK China collectively promised: “Innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development concepts, comprehensive and in-depth implementation. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is contributing positively to achieving the global sustainable development goals.”

The Social Responsibility Basic Textbook (Second Edition) was released during the Responsibility Exhibition, which also hosted the first “Social Value Forum”. Experts from Korea’s KPC Sustainability Management Center and representatives of Chinese and foreign companies discussed how companies can better create social value and take the lead to solve social and environmental problems. The “4th Enterprise Precision Poverty Alleviation Red Flag Summit Forum” was also held during the event.

Finally, the meeting officially launched research into the first Corporate Poverty Alleviation Blue Book, which should be published in 2020. Representatives of China Huaneng, China Resources Group, China Tourism Group, Wenshi, Meituan, Samsung China, PetroChina and other companies made keynote speeches and released a special report on corporate poverty alleviation.
