Environment may be issue at two sessions

By Wu Wencong, China Daily, February 26, 2013

Representatives say the environment will get a significant amount of attention at the upcoming “lianghui” sessions of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Proposals will include water resource protection and soil pollution, topics that have received widespread public attention following recent controversy concerning groundwater pollution. Air pollution will also certainly be a hot topic, as noted in Environment Minister Zhou Shengxian’s January statement that “China has entered the era of ‘three Ps’: GDP, CPI and PM2.5,” referencing the measurement of fine particle air pollution that notified the public that Beijing’s air quality was “crazy bad.”
