Guangzhou Daily (广州日报), June 20, 2013

The Guangzhou Charity Organization Social Supervision Committee recently elected its leadership, which will include former Deputy-Director of the Guangzhou People’s Congress Tao Ziji, Guangzhou TCM Hospital President Lu Yubo, Sun Yatsen University School of Philanthropy Acting Director Zhu Jiangang, and NPC representative and Guangzhou Lawyers Magazine Editor Chen Shu. The committee does not include any current acting officials, and will supervise both private and government charity activities. The committee’s first major task will be to supervise the RMB 300,000 in charity funds which the Guangzhou Charity Project will use to support 1,000 programs. Zhu Jiangong emphasized that this committee differs from the Chinese Red Cross Social Supervision Committee in that while the Red Cross Supervision Committee was appointed by the Red Cross to supervise its own activity, the Guangzhou Charity Organization Social Supervision Committee has been established by the government to supervise social organizations. Zhu also mentioned his view that the public focused excessively on the Guo Meimei incident, rather than concentrating on problems in the Chinese Red Cross operation mechanisms.
