Speaking at CDB’s forum on advocacy held last week, activist Lei Chuang described his non-violent form of individual advocacy by stating that “all I can do is to write letters, to write letters without stopping.” Lei, who advocates against discrimination directed toward those with Hepatitis B, was one of a number of activists at the event who utilize social media, performance art, and other novel methods in advocating for their causes, which surely mark a new era for Chinese advocates and activists. Others at the event emphasized the need for NGOs to more effectively channel pubic energies in order to enact social change.
