  • Tencent presents its efforts against COVID-19 at UN conference

Tencent shared its “China Plan” to fight the coronavirus pandemic during an online UN conference on July 1st. The conference, with the theme of  “How to Make use of Information, Technology and Digital Government to Innovatively Fight Against COVID-19 – Africa’s Response Plan”, was organised by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the UN.

According to the Chinese tech giant’s presentation during the conference, in Hubei province many hospitals use CT equipped with Tencent’s AI technology to complete AI pattern recognition in times ranging from two seconds to one minute, which can provide doctors with auxiliary diagnostic reference. Tencent Cloud currently also provides free access to batch GPU cloud servers to assist research institutions in accelerating the screening of new drugs and research and development for a vaccine.

Besides, as of mid-June, Tencent had supported 21 provincial-level regions and more than 400 cities and counties to carry out epidemic prevention and control work, and it had launched more than 100 small-scale service programs related to the coronavirus. According to Tencent’s data, during the epidemic millions of teachers quickly started providing classes through Tencent Classroom, WeChat Work and other streaming products. At present, Tencent Education has served more than 1,000 provincial and municipal education authorities across the country and has created more than 100,000 smart campuses.

Lastly, as well providing services in English for self-examination, diagnosis and information on the pandemic, Tencent has also opened the sources of the “Tencent Health” COVID-19 module international version (TH_COVID19_International) and the “COVID-19 self-triage assistant” to developers around the world.
